We are grateful to God for leading us through our personal and collective journey of faith in 2022. We can all testify that within our journey, prayer was vital for our very existence in the world around us and when turmoil rose inside of us. As we enter this New Year of 2023, prayer must continue to be a part of our journey of faith as we become greater “disciplined believers”. Psalm 119:9-11 presents it this way, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to Your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from Your commands. I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” God wants for us to tap into a deeper place in Him through our relationship with Jesus and our dependence on the Holy Spirit. This requires discipline. It also requires prayer. Self-discipline is the dedicated training, through the study of Scripture, prayer and self-control which enables us to be more effective witnesses to the gospel, to lead lives more pleasing to God, and to win the crown that awaits those who are victorious over sin. God wants us to experience the wholeness of Him through our thoughts, speech, behavior, and body.
This takes discipline that only can be done by God through Christ with the power of His Holy Spirit. Join us in 2023 as we continue becoming disciplined through prayer. 2 Timothy 4:7-10 tells us, "have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both present life and life to come. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe."
